VNHS Bereavement Program

It’s never easy to deal with the feelings of loss when a loved one dies.  Hospice Atlanta provides much needed support for family and friends under the direction of our Bereavement Coordinator, who has been a social worker with Hospice Atlanta since 1983.  We stay in touch with our hospice families for one year; pediatric hospice families for two years.  Guided by our coordinator, specially-trained volunteers also support our bereaved families.

See "Preparing for Death" and “Learning About Grief”.

Bereavement Support Group
A support group is offered the second and fourth Sunday of each month, from 2-3:30 PM, at the Hospice Atlanta Center.  See directions. It is open to the entire community, not just families who have been served by Hospice Atlanta.  Please see a listing of other bereavement groups in the metro Atlanta area.

A session on learning about the grief process is held the first Tuesday of every month, from 7-8:30 PM, at the Hospice Atlanta Center in the Multipurpose Room. Here you can also ask your questions about how this process is affecting you. Please call 404-869-3052 to attend a session.

Camp STARS (Sharing Together As Real Support)
We also help young people and families deal with their grief in two special weekend programs.  Camp STARS for Families is held in March each year.  Camp STARS for Children is held in November.
